Fan Tuan - Taiwanese Rice Rolls

In Taiwan, breakfast is all about street food. As the sun rises, vendors line the streets, serving up morning favorites to hungry locals. One of the stars of the scene? Fan Tuan—a sticky rice roll packed with crispy fried dough, savory pork floss, and tangy preserved vegetables. At the most popular spots, you’ll find lines snaking around the block, with people waiting for that perfect fan tuan, paired with a warm bowl of sweet or savory soy milk!

INSTRUCTIONS
  1. Rinse and drain the rice. Cover the rice with water and allow it to soak overnight.
  2. After soaking, drain the rice and add it to a dish. Steam for 30 minutes.
  3. In a small pan, add Golden Shallot Oil. Then add eggs and cook until it is set.
  4. To a large plastic wrap, flatten out a scoop of rice, enough to cover all the fillings. add the egg, Chinese donut, pork floss, and preserved radish. Roll tightly and twist using the plastic wrap to set its shape. Enjoy!
